What I’m Watching: Wayward Pines

Wayward Pines tells the story of secret service agent Ethan Burke. While investing the disappearances of a fellow agent, Ethan gets into a car crash and finds himself in the small town of Wayward Pines. After a mysterious bartender gives him a mysterious message, ‘There are no crickets in Wayward Pines’ Ethan tries his hardest to get out of the sleepy little hamlet to get back to his family and the case that he was working on. But after meeting a number of strange characters, including a controlling nurse at a hospital, Ethan discovers that escaping the town won’t be so easy. And that nothing in the town is what it seems.

Based off a series of novels by Blake Crouch, the first episode, “Where Paradise is Home” was directed by M. Night Shymalan. The whole introductory episode is sinister, and off kilter, leaving the viewer with a growing sense of unease. Its compelling and strange enough to make you want more.

Notably, the series also had involvement from The Duffer Brothers of the Stranger Things Phenomenon. The show is two seasons and you’ll be hooked after the first episode.
